2018 G80 vs Q50: Sporty Performance Specs

2018 Genesis G80 PerformanceLook under the hood for the first reason these two cars stand out. The 2018 Q50 comes standard with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, which produces a healthy 208 horsepower. You'll have plenty of power to get this car moving in a hurry-but the 2018 G80 can deliver even more.

Its base engine is a 3.8L V6 that kicks out 311 horsepower for even more athleticism out on the road. You'll have merging and passing power unmatched by what the INFINITI car can offer.

Look to the top trim levels, and things are a bit more evenly matched. The G80 retains a slight advantage, with an available 5.0L V8 (420 horsepower) that barely bests the Q50's twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 (400 horsepower). Still, that leaves the Genesis car with more potential.

Deluxe Interior Features

Luxury cars like the Genesis G80 and INFINITI Q50 place a premium on comfort and style. On those chilly mornings and during those (thankfully short) winter months, you'll appreciate the standard heated front seats in both rides.

However, while the G80 comes standard with full-grain leather seats, the Q50 offers imitation leather instead. While the INFINITI car does makes leather seats available, its Genesis counterpart goes above and beyond by giving you this deluxe feature standard.

While front-row headroom is solid in both cars, taller backseat passengers may find their headroom a bit cramped in the Q50. With just 36.8 inches of headroom, those tall riders may find their heads scraping up against the roof-and some difficulty climbing in and out. By contrast, the 38.2 inches of headroom in the G80 makes for more comfort.

Quality Safety Features

2018 Genesis G80 Interior FeaturesThe 2018 G80 and Q50 have each undergone multiple series of crash tests, and the results are in. The G80 has earned an IIHS 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award and an NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating, showing its aptitude when it comes to reducing risk of injury in accidents.

The Q50 has been through more limited crash testing, but the results look good. It earned a perfect score of "Good" in all three IIHS crash tests it was subjected to, as well as a perfect five stars on the NHTSA rollover test.

Both rides offer a range of driver-assist features, including:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control, to help you keep a preset distance from the car ahead of you.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring, to warn you when a car is detected in or near your blind spot.
  • Lane Keep Assist, to help you avoid drifting from your lane.

However, while these features all come standard in the G80, they're only available as options in the Q50. The only standard driver-assist technology you'll find in the INFINITI car is a rearview camera-a feature also present in the G80.
